Our mission
Aligned with the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center, AI PHI’s mission is to reduce the burden of cancer, especially in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. Our research objectives:
- Accurately identify those at high risk of cancer
- Develop novel interventions to reduce cancer risk
- Detect cancers early — in their most treatable and survivable state
Our approach
We pursue this mission by:
- Validating AI cancer-risk and detection models in the local population, with its unique ethnic and cultural qualities
- Developing AI models from regional data when off-the-shelf models prove inadequate
- Supporting AI use in the region through pilot project funding for cancer-related projects
- Providing technical support and physical resources to students and faculty
- Collaborating with academic and industry partners aligned with the mission
