Review and approval process

  1. The policy guides tracking of all publications and grant applications using Shape Up! data.
  2. Investigators submit a form outlining the request — abstract, manuscript, or grant.
  3. Principal Investigators review and approve.
  4. The database tracks all ongoing projects with monthly status updates.
  5. New variables derived from the data are returned to the study database.

Manuscript requirements

  • One Shape Up! Principal Investigator must be listed as last author
  • All funding sources must be acknowledged
  • Publication costs may be covered case-by-case
  • A data-availability statement must be provided to protect participant confidentiality

Grant requirements

  • Biological-sample requests require peer-reviewed funding
  • Outside expert consultants may be engaged as needed
  • Dataset preparation and sample retrieval costs are charged to the requesting project
